Description
The story of Sutton Place Hotel dates back to the nineteenth century, when the building was first constructed as a private residence for a Dominican family. It was later acquired by the Harris family, who converted the home into a guesthouse in the 1960s. Many locals still fondly recall Sutton Guesthouse and its matriarch, “Mother Harris,” whose care and hospitality became part of the property’s identity.
In 1979, Hurricane David caused widespread devastation across Dominica, and the original guesthouse was destroyed. Today, rebuilt on the remains of the historic structure, Sutton Place Hotel stands in traditional Caribbean style. The Harris family continues its near-century-long legacy of comfortable elegance and warm Dominican hospitality.
