Description
Janus Bar is a ocally owned bar in Portsmouth, better known to many as “Janus in Possie” – a regular lime spot for strong drinks, music and easy-going north-coast vibes. Instead of being a roaming pop-up, it operates as a neighbourhood bar where you’ll find a mix of villagers, students and visitors dropping in to socialise, watch a game, or start (or end) the night with a drink and some good company.
On any given evening you can expect ice-cold beers, rum shots, simple cocktails and chasers flowing across the counter, with a soundtrack that leans into reggae, soca, bouyon and whatever else keeps the energy up. The atmosphere is informal and friendly, the kind of place where you can walk in alone and still end up in conversation at the bar. Beyond its day-to-day role in Portsmouth, Janus Bar also serves as a recognised drinks vendor at major national events such as Dominica’s Jazz ‘n Creole festival at Fort Shirley, Cabrits National Park, where it helps keep festival-goers refreshed throughout the day.
Whether you are liming in town, looking for a no-frills spot to grab a drink with friends, or happy to see a familiar name behind the counter at a big show, Janus Bar delivers exactly what people expect of a real Dominican bar, straightforward service, proper pours and a laid-back, local vibe.
